Marlene “Joannie” Bewa, MD, MPH, PhD is an Assistant Scientist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Gender Equity Unit and Center for Global Digital Health Innovation, with more than 15 years of experience in medicine, academia, consulting, and international organizations. With the support of funding from the Society of Family Planning, Grand Challenges Canada, Schlumberger Foundation, and UNFPA, she led research on access to contraception, as well as improving maternal, sexual, reproductive, and adolescent health outcomes. She holds advanced degrees from the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health and the Faculte des Sciences de la Sante, University of Abomey Calavi.
